What We Do
The success of the Michael Joseph Foundation starts with selecting experienced and qualified organizations to screen and select applicants who meet the criteria for our assistance. All applicants must have demonstrated the desire and attitude necessary to ultimately achieve independence.
Once selected, families are placed in safe apartments with easy access to transportation and other services necessary to accommodate their particular needs. Immediately the planning and work towards self-sufficiency begins. Each family works with a licensed clinical social worker who will initially assess the current functioning of the family.
The process toward self-reliance continues with these important steps:
- Job readiness assessment and training.
- Financial counseling.
- Parenting counseling.
- Day-care and transportation needs.
At the end of the program, families are assisted in securing permanent housing as well as full-time work. Further counseling is granted for as long as one full year. Families are encouraged to continue their academic growth.
